Are we eco Nazis?
Updated: Mar 5, 2020
Each year, in the UK alone, consumers use 227,000 miles of wrapping paper - which is the equivalent of wrapping the Earth’s circumference with it 9.5 times! No wonder our Planet is exhausted!

Wrapuccino's founders have never been the proper “nazi’ kind of crazy no-waste eco activists. What we mean by this is that we wouldn’t really re-purpose the socks we were given for our 7th birthday to then carry our lunch through uni and only retire them as handkerchiefs once they developed further holes making their function as a portable device highly impractical.
Don’t get us wrong - we highly admire this approach (and we have met such resourcefully wonderful people personally, you know who you are, hi Bonny), We’ve simply always been too lazy/ convenient/ ignorant/ comfortable to be doing it ourselves.
Add to it the luxury of online shopping next-day home deliveries, and a thought to ever give a second life to something that’s grown old had never crossed our minds. Yes we “cared” about the environment- recycled our rubbish, tried to reuse containers etc.- but on a very basic level. We had no problem with that and lived our life on this Planet.
But even to a lazy, comfortable Millenial like ourselves, with a very basic environmentalist approach, the idea of throwing away tons and tons of wrapping paper every year sounded mad.

And the paper bit isn’t even the worst part. Many wrapping papers are not made from paper per se and thus can’t be recycled. Others are covered in shining glitter that is effectively microplastics which will live on this Planet for thousands of years. This is what marine life feeds on in our Oceans.
We’ve come a long way from the times when we thought recycling our rubbish was doing enough for the Planet. We have educated ourselves and become horrified. All the plastic that has ever been produced still exists on Earth. Sellotape can’t be recycled. Something had to be done.
And that’s our friend, how the idea of a 100% recyclable gift wrap made from natural fabrics such hemp and cotton was born. Will it save the Planet? Probably not. It is a tiny step. Small steps, however, have been known to make huge impacts on humankind.
